A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT (by Andy)

Last night was a special night for us.

Uncle Lucas came by surprise and told Luc to prepare to go to the Academy because the director wanted to talk to him. Luc asked him what happened, because it was very unusual to go to the academy at that time, everyone was sleeping. Uncle Lucas replied that it was something special that had arisen and that he must go with him.

Last Monday, Luc broke his upper lip on the inside and had to get 6 stitches. He explained it was an accident in one of the workouts at sea. One of the boys hit his head accidentally, but did not say the whole story.

What happened was that three of the boys fell into the water by a huge wave that suddenly hit the boat. Lucas scream "three over board" and jumped into the water followed by three instructors. What happened next makes me feel very proud of him.

Luc plunged 27 feet at pure lung, without a mask or fins. He grab two of the boys, each by an arm and thank God, when surfaced, he did next by the little emergency boat. The instructors helped them up and immediately began first aid. It was partly a way that the two were unconscious , it is very dangerous when any person approaches another who is drowning, you must have training.

The third boy was trying to swim to the little boat began to sink but from exhaustion. The instructors who were in the boat, began to lead others toward the boy. One of them was trying to jump into the water, but the sea was very choppy and knew he could not leave the boat for the safety of other children. Luc jumped into the water again because the three instructors in the small boat were busy suministrating first aid at the two boys into the boat. When they saw that Luc jump back, one of the instructors was also jumping from the boat, accompanied by another in the little boat that followed. Luc can not remember more than when he try to grab the boy, he hits Luc with his head and Luc inadvertently lost consciousness, but instructors who jumped were there holding each one of them.

Thank God all went well. They were in the hospital overnight.

When we were getting in the cars, Luc ask his dad what was all about, his dad told him not to worry, he would know when they came to the Academy.

When we arrived, went straight to the hall of ceremonies, was packed with all students and most parents.

The Director of Student Affairs Department began the ceremony. Then came the students and instructors. They explained how it all happened. Then the director spoke, he gives the instructors recognition scrolls and imposed Luc with the Student Heroism Medal, which has been imposed on a student for the second time in 138 years since the Academy have been founded and for the first time in the last 102 years. Students and instructors embraced Luc, creating an emotional moment, but what happened next has been one of the most beautiful moments I have experienced in my life.

When the Director invite Luc to say a few words, Andres stand up and ran up to the podium at front, when Luke saw him, he moved to wait and try to hug him, but Andres stopped him and let him understand by signs, which were to inclined to say something to him. Andres is a beautiful child. He looked so cute in his suit, his long hair and sunburned skin. Luc leaned over and Andres grabbed his face in his hands and told him ''you are my hero, you're the best big brother I never had and I love you'' then kissed him on the lips so tenderly, Luc was very calm through the entire ceremony, but when Andres said that and was heard so clear, because Luc had a microphone attached in the collar of his suit, is when Luc leaned over and hug Andres, lifting him in arms and sobbing. That unleashed an standing ovation from the audience.

Luc and Andres holding hands faced the audience. The first thing Luc could say was,''Dad?''.

Uncle Lucas then got up holding aunt hand and hand signal to all of us, to accompany him to the front. We all embrace Luc.

Luc did not talk much, in essence just said ''I thank God for my parents, for the way they have taught me about God`s knowlege. Thanks to everyone for this recognition, but makes me wonder, what about my generation?. Every human being is happy if he does something worthy of recognition, but for me, the reaction to what happened was something normal. I did not stop to think whether or not to do so, then why my generation takes it so great?. What my generation have inside their hearts?. Does you not have done the same?. Parents?, What values ​​are you teaching to you children?. Thank you.''

Luc says the things he feels. He does not said them with the intention to be rude or offend. It's just the way he is.

When we were in the car on the way home, Luc took the medal in his hand and said aloud to himself ''Grandpa this is for you. Ro this is for you.'' Kiss the medal and put it around his dad`s neck.
